Thank-you for choosing Cartama Consulting LLC to host your e-mail. The following notes will help you to configure your e-mail client for use with our systems. These notes use
example.com and
you@example.com throughout. Substitute your domain and e-mail
address as appropriate.
These instructions assume you are already familiar with the operation of many internet tools. If you are having difficulty with some aspect of our service, please
contact us, so that we may be of
assistance.
E-mail Settings
The incoming (POP3) e-mail server is pop.example.com.
The outgoing (SMTP) server is mail.example.com
(replace example.com with
your domain name, so that if your domain name is mywebsite.com
you would use pop.mywebsite.com and mail.mywebsite.com).
Outlook Express
-
Start
Outlook Express (or Outlook, the settings are similar)

Go to the
Tools menu and click on Accounts. Click on the Mail tab.
Click Add, then Mail.

Enter your
name. Click Next.

Enter your
e-mail address in the box. Click Next.

The Cartama incoming mail server is
a POP3
server. The incoming server is pop.example.com
(see note above in E-mail Settings). The outgoing (SMTP) server is mail.example.com
(see note above in E-mail Settings). Click Next.

Enter your
e-mail address in the "Account Name" box, and your password. Leave "Secure Password
Authentication" unchecked. Click Next.

Click
Finish.

Highlight
the account you just added and click Properties.

Click on the
Servers tab.

Near the
bottom, in the "Outgoing mail server" section,
check "My server requires authentication".

Click the
"Settings" button beside it. In the
"Outgoing Mail Server" window, select
"Use same settings as my incoming mail
server". Click OK.

Click on the
Advanced tab.

Change
the number in the "Outgoing mail (SMTP)" box from 25 to
587.

Click
"OK", then "Close".

Connect to
the internet and send a test e-mail to yourself, and
another to a friend whose e-mail account is not hosted
by Cartama.

If one or
more of your test messages is returned undelivered and
the error message refers to "relaying", ensure
that you followed steps 10 through 13.

Here's what
the settings should look like when you're done:



Thunderbird / Netscape
Messenger (Ver 7.01)

Start
Thunderbird or Netscape Messenger.

Go to the
Edit menu and select "Mail & Newsgroups Account
Settings". Add an e-mail account.

Enter your
information. The incoming server name is pop.example.com
(see note above in E-mail Settings). The Cartama
mail server is a POP3
server. Enter your e-mail address in the "User Name",
"E-mail Address" and "Account Name" boxes.

When
complete, click on "Outgoing Server (SMTP). Set the server
name to mail.example.com
(see note above in E-mail Settings). Enter your e-mail address in the "User Name" box.
Change the port to 587.

Set
"Use secure connection (SSL)" to
"When Available". Click OK.

Connect to
the internet and send a test e-mail to yourself, and
another to a friend whose e-mail account is not hosted
by Cartama.
