Spam Filter Information

Spam is a serious problem for all users of e-mail. We have a spam filter using the latest technology that blocks more than 95% of all spam with a very low false-positive rate.

A few notes on how the filter works:

  • It uses a series of mechanisms to identify spam-like messages.

  • Images are examined to determine if other users have recognized them as containing spam.

  • Images are also analyzed to see if they contain spam-like text.

  • PDF's are analyzed for spam-like text.

  • A mechanism called "grey-listing" is used to block spam servers. However, grey-listing can delay your e-mail. The first time someone sends you an email, it is delayed for a short time, usually about 10 minutes. When that person sends you another email, there is no delay. We realize that this delay is frustrating for our customers, but due to the way spammers send email, the grey-listing mechanism efficiently blocks most spam.

The filter will change or block some emails:

  • Emails containing viruses are blocked.

  • Messages which are definitely spam are blocked.

  • Executables and some other potentially dangerous attachments are blocked.

  • It modifies the subject line of your email when it thinks the message may be fraudulent "[Fraud?]".

  • It sends you an email to notify you about messages which might be spam. If you believe the message to be non-spam, you can click a link to release the message.

You can create an account on the spam filter by clicking here.

  • All messages are held in quarantine for 30 days and can be examined and released.

  • You can modify the settings for your email address to control some aspects of the filter's behavior.

  • We can create an account which controls the filter's behavior for all mailboxes in your domain. Please Contact Us.
